![]() ![]() I've heard excellent things about this one as well. I would have to imagine that the Orvis SFT is going to be faster and stiffer, but the Winston disproved my preconceived misconceptions, and I am starting to wonder about the Orvis SFT as well. Shop Staff Notes: The Orvis Superfine Glass 8 5-weight Fly Rod is a cool rod to fish on small creek to even bigger rivers (though, not great in the wind). This rod has me strongly considering building an Orvis Superfine Touch 9'0" 6wt. However, my first impression is that the rod perfectly splits the difference between the deeper bending, fun factor of glass while still offering some of the extra power of graphite. I am eager to spend more time getting to know this rod on the water. or various Dan Craft 6wt rods that I've built. The Winston is a step faster than similar glass rods I've handled, but significantly slower and deeper bending than the Sage ZXL 6wt. And most importantly, the rod is not too FAST and not too STIFF. The wind was gusting on and off and the rod handled the wind very nicely. The rod handled a wide spectrum of flies. The 905 Superfine Touch has become one of my favorite rods to fish with on those days when fishing dries or small nymphs are the way to go. I have the tip flex version and find it very slightly slower than my Scott A3 4wt. Its is spectacularly built (finish etc.)and has a very pleasing action. To me this rod is best rod I have ever used and owned. I fish a 76' Superfine Touch Trout Bum 4 Wt as my standard rod for the smaller streams near home. The beautiful sleek design of the Orvis Superfine Touch is like no other. It delivers the fly where you want it to go. It is sturdy enough to catch large trout and bass. I tried various weighted flies and wind-resistant poppers. This Orvis Superfine Touch is the ideal rod for anyone who wants to fish small streams, creeks, or rivers. I received the Winston WT in the mail on Saturday, and I was able to take it to our subdivision lake for some casting time on the water. However, I have a new contender in the graphite arena: To date, my favorite has been a Steffen 5/6wt. It's perfect for tight streams, casts beautifully, and is fun to fight a fish on. I have a 6' 2-weight Superfine Touch that I LOVE. I'll be fishing for trout on lakes and streams. rods over the last few years both graphite and glass but never any Winstons. I'm going to take advantage of the sale prices on the Orvis Superfine Touch rods, but I'm struggling on which one to buy. I've built and fished numerous (maybe 8-10) 6wt. The Superfine is a damn nice rod for precise, delicate fly presentations. Donna used this most of the day - I used it exclusively last weekend on a dry-fly day on the Yakima. The price was less than the cost of a blank, so I pulled the trigger. Because Im working on a review of 'dry fly' rods, I also had an Orvis Superfine Touch (8-foot 4-wt) on the river. I picked up a brand new Winston WT 8'6" 6wt. ![]()
